Traditions Related To Engagement Rings
In western tradition, an engagement ring is worn by a woman and is a symbol that she is engaged to get married. Conventionally, engagement ring is presented by a man to his prospective bride as a betrothal gift while he proposes her for the marriage or directly after the girl accepts the proposal to get married.

The engagement rings represent a type of formal agreement between the boy and a girl to future marriage. This engagement ring is worn on the left hand ring finger in the countries like United Kingdom and the United States whereas in some other countries like Ukraine and Poland it is customary to wear the ring on the right hand ring finger. Similar traditions were also there if we talk about the classic times, it was considered that the fourth finger of the left hand contains the vena amoris or what we call the vein of love.
In the countries like United States and Canada it is becoming common although still rare, that a woman will also buy an engagement ring for her partner at the time of engagement. These are called man-agement rings, which is a portmanteau of the words man and engagement ring.
In some of the countries the couple may also choose to buy and wear pre-engagement rings also called the promise rings before agreeing to get married.
